About Karen Weiman
MSW, LISW-S (OH), LMSW (MI), LICDC (OH), EMDR-C, PMH-C
I have been in the mental health field for 20+ years and have been working with anxiety and trauma since 1998.
I work best with people who are tired of being anxious and unhappy and who are willing and ready to do the deep work it takes to feel better.
Self-improvement isn’t always easy. I guarantee I will be your biggest fan and loudest cheerleader on your journey.
As a seasoned therapist, I use EMDR therapy, NARM therapy, and other advanced methods to get to the root of your symptoms. These deeper therapies are known to have lasting results (not a Band-Aid!).
Style
My approach is genuine. I come as I am. My hope is that you can also feel comfortable enough to be your true and authentic self with me.
My therapeutic style is collaborative. I want you to feel like yourself as soon as possible. You do not have to go through it alone. We will find solutions so you can feel better.
Many of my clients find me after seeing numerous therapists first. If this is you, your determination is commendable. I am equally determined to help you find the relief you deserve.
My therapy is Change Therapy, not Support Therapy. I am not the kind of therapist who will simply nod my head and listen. I provide therapy unique to you as you are ready to make changes in order to see change. I will listen intently and help you gain understanding. I will gently point out your blind spots. I will offer mental health expertise and guidance or tools to help you feel better long-term so the same issues do not keep reappearing. Examples of these tools include boundary setting suggestions, self-awareness, behavior chain analysis, self-care strategies, reclaiming agency, mindfulness, communication skills, and evidence-based therapeutic techniques.
Taking Action
As an experienced clinician, I realize what it takes to reach out and decide if it is time to seek assistance for a personal or family matter. I have seen over and over that investing in your emotional health now will have lasting benefits not only for you but for your loved ones and others you encounter in life.
I have sought my own counseling to propel me forward when I have felt stuck or needed support. It has made me a stronger person today. I have also done my own EMDR and NARM Therapies and use them in my practice because I have first-hand experience. I know they work incredibly well.
My Home
I have lived most of my life in Ohio (Cincy, Cbus, and Athens areas) but have also lived in NM, UT, CA, OR, and most recently a small lake town in MI. We recently moved back to Columbus, OH to be near family and are happy to be back.
I am a go-getter, but also like to relish in the rare quiet moments. I love a good walk in the woods with family or friends, sitting on a quiet porch sipping coffee, playing a board game with my family while eating a home cooked meal, and I shamelessly love a good crime or reality T.V. show…What?!
I have a vivacious 11 year old who has 5x the personality her dad or I have combined, so much of my time is spent in awe or shock of what she is doing next.
And, I sing and play guitar in a small band! Well, “band” is a stretch … it’s really just a group of friends who sit around a kitchen table playing folky mountain music for shits and giggles.
